Is Ernie Schreiber at it again?

It was with sadness for the death ofan infant, whether before or after birth, and the plight of its teenage mother that we viewed the article “McCaskey student out of prison; Accused of putting baby in trash can.”

But it was with horror and disgust that we saw the nineteen year old girls picture on the front page.

When he was editor of the evening New Era, Schreiber would titillate his readers with stories and pictures of prostitutes, all the time in a tone of ‘tsk tsking’.

Schreiber would also disregard journalistic ethics by publishing exit polls conducted during the morning of election days in his afternoon edition.

We could not look ourselves in the mirror if we were to try to profit from the misery of a nineteen year old girl attending a local high school by publishing her picture. Apparently Schreiber or an underling editor at the Lancaster Newspapers has no such compunctions.

We wonder: Had the girl been Caucasian and from a suburban high school, would the story even have been covered?

  1. Short answer…probably not. The ivory tower sees life through a different lens than 99% of the population…witness the lack of diversity within the walls of the management, editorial and reporting staffs.

Using the term journalistic ethics in any story about LNP is a stretch. Ernie was brought back because he was a “safe” hire rather than conduct a thorough search for whatever position they felt they needed.

Have you noticed that since Marv Adams ‘retired”, the editors column in the Sunday News has become nothing more than a ‘pat on the back’ fluff piece by various editors extolling their ‘local, local, local’ mantra. If this had been done only one time, I could understand….but to incessantly promote this ad nauseum is too much.
