INTELLIGENCER NEW ERA

In “No sacred cows in process of belt-tightening”, columnist Jeff Hawkes comments “Now along comes county commissioner Scott Martin with questions about the need for the $470,000-a-year Human relations Commission…. The County established the anti-discrimination commission the same year President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Bill… Would asking the state to redress wrongs result on unreasonable delays and hardship…?…Advocates of a county health department…say only $110,000 in county funds is needed to get one started. Is public health less important than equal rights?”

WATCHDOG:

A wag of the tail.    Times change and we need to re-evaluate priorities.  We have come a long way in social justice since the 1960s.

But are we sure that we need a health department?  How about more aid to libraries?

  1. Speaking of aid to libraries, when are the politicians (including Armstrong) planning to reinstate the funds ($3,000,000) that was taken from the library and given to the Lancaster County Convention Center. The library could surely use the funds more efficiently than the LCCC. Maybe the LCCC could/should reimburse the library.

  2. I have been investigating Lancaster’s HRC for months.

I have ample evidence that they do NOT “protect the civil rights of citizens” but instead play favorites discriminating wholesale against certain groups. In fact they are prime to be sued for civil rights discrimination themselves as I advised the commissioners.

I spoke in front of the commissioners on these concerns within the past couple months and applaud the elimination of this absolute waste.

The only thing worse than having nowhere to go when you are the victim of discrimination is to have a tax-funded agency that pretends to be there but throws you out as unworthy of protection.

The widest, most predominant group of discriminated in Lancaster is fathers. Leslie and the HRC have patently refused to protect these fathers and their childrens rights. They certainly protect women’s rights in all regards and one might think even applaud the advantage women have over men in custody, support and criminal courts.

Everyone is created equal – its just that some are created a little MORE equal and the Lancaster HRC protects those MORE equal individuals.
