INTELLIGENCER JOURNAL

EditorialThe big lie; After years of declaring his innocence, cyclist Floyd Landis admits he cheated” concludes as follows:

“The world was disappointed when Landis was stripped of his Tour de France  championship.  But that pales in comparison to what he has lost in terms of honesty, dignity and respect.

“The yellow jersey of the leader means nothing if you cannot summon the courage to tell the truth when it matters most.”

WATCHDOG: Two wags of the tail for the sentiment.  We say the same applies to Publisher Jack Buckwalter who has never publicly apologized for the slanted news during the Convention Center controversy and to Tom Beeman of Lancaster General Health who currently refuses to release the Federal 990 form to NewsLanc despite being required to do so by federal law.

Sadly, these are but examples of many unjust things that take place by powerful and arrogant local figures,  go unreported by the  local media,  and unseen by the general public.

When a community cheats, it should not be surprised when its children do so also.

  1. The UCI, USA Cycling, the IOC and Armstrong are a tangled web of unfettered control. They form a machine that wields money, power, and influence well beyond the borders of sport.

I think the matter is a microcosm of the destructive and corrupting result of concentrated, unchecked power which serves at the foundation for troubles locally, nationally, and internationally.
