INTELLIGENCER JOURNAL

In the editorial “Scandals du jour”, the editors proclaim “So John Edwards has finally come clean….The Edwards story already was sordid enough.  He acknowledged having sexual relationship with Hunter at the same time his wife, Elizabeth, was fighting cancer (shades of Newt Gingrich.)  But Edwards denied the child was his.”

WATCHDOG: Growl!   John Edwards is no longer a public official nor a candidate for office, nor has he been for years.   His having an extra marital relationship is more a human failing than a “sordid affair.”

Perhaps unbeknownst to the editors, very successful males may be heavier sexed and they are more  likely to attract the attention of females.  Being away from home for lengthily periods under stressful conditions are further contributing factors.   Also, the need to be supportive of a sick wife does not take the place of having a healthy wife supportive of oneself.  In short, Edwards was especially vulnerable and, without condoning his actions, we can understand and sympathize with him.

We direct the editors’ attention to the story of Judah and Tamar from the Old Testament and Jesus’ admonition about throwing stones from the New.   And we encourage the Intell editors to rise above the salacious and the sanctimonious, until recently  the province of the New Era.
