In ‘snow emergency,’ E King garage makes way for conventioneers

A NewsLanc reader recently reported that city residents parked in the East King Street garage were being “forced to move their cars” from the facility. With parking banned on many major city streets due to a current snow emergency status, the reader asked, “If the garages are full…,where are all those parked in King St supposed to park?”

Today NewsLanc spoke with Kyle Ressler, an employee of the Lancaster City Parking Authority, to inquire about the situation.

According to Ressler, no residents have been rejected from the garage; however, Ressler noted, the East King Street garage has resumed charging for parking as of Friday morning—unlike the Prince and Duke Street garages, which will remain free for city residents until Sunday afternoon.

Ressler said that the East King Street garage will charge for parking over the weekend to clear space for visitors to the Suburban Pennsylvania Spring Home Show at the nearby Lancaster County Convention Center.

The Parking Authority employee said that there is sufficient room for city residents in the Prince Street garage, which is the city’s largest. The Water Street and Duke Street garages were full early Friday afternoon; however, Ressler noted, the level of occupancy should change after business hours.

Charging for parking will be resumed at the Prince, Water, and Duke Street garages as of 1 p.m. Sunday.
