In Penn State election, let’s see more transparency and more moxie

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS Editorial: Balloting for this year’s alumni seats on the Penn State Board of Trustees has begun, and if past results are any indication, voters will select candidates who want to revisit the Freeh Report, question NCAA football sanctions, and restore Joe Paterno to a place of honor…

Voters ought to be looking for candidates who are focused more on Penn State’s future than its past:

• Why is tuition so high, and how can costs be kept affordable?
• What direction will the board set for incoming president Eric Barron?
• How well is the school serving students?
• How can trustees help Penn State build its reputation for cutting-edge research and first-class education?

The answers will not be found in a rehash of the Freeh report… (more)

EDITOR: It is important that those who showed so little wisdom and courage as to have voted for the precipitous and highly questionable firing of Coach Joe Paterno (who was virtually on his death bed) need to be replaced. Nor can their acceptance of the NCCCA harsh ruling in contradiction of NCCCA’s own by-laws be tolerated. The current trustees should minimally ccept responsibility for their errors and officially apologize to the Paterno family.
