When it comes to speed limits on high-speed highways and interstates, let’s get one thing out of the way up front: Pretty much everyone pegs their dial about 5 mph beyond whatever the legal limit happens to be.
So a bill in the state House to raise the speed limit on most of the Pennsylvania Turnpike to 70 mph is, in effect, proposing an average velocity increase to about 75 mph.
Should this bill pass, the driving environment people will encounter on the turnpike will prove a great deal faster, which has its ups and downs. (And it could very well pass, since it cleared the House Transportation Committee this week on its way to a full House vote.) …
