Hong Kong: Protesters defiant amid stand-off

BBC: Tens of thousands of pro-democracy protesters are blocking Hong Kong’s streets, shutting down its business hub and ignoring appeals to leave.

The demonstrations have spread to other areas including a shopping district and a residential area.

EDITOR: We fear this may lead to a re-play of the 1989’s Tiananmen protests. This time the consequences will be even greater. With over a billion people and a huge differences between regions and classes, the government has much to be concerned about. It’s greatest fear has been another civil war.
