Here’s one good thing the Legislature can accomplish when it returns

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS Editorial: Fall is coming, and that means the return of Penn State football and the final pre-election spasm of work by the Pennsylvania Legislature. While hope has dimmed for a breakthrough on high-profile issues like pension reform and liquor privatization, lawmakers can do useful work on smaller but still important matters.

One of them is tightening up the state’s Right to Know Law. While generally strong as it applies to state government, that law does exempt the four big state-related universities, including Penn State, from all but superficial public scrutiny.

A Senate committee, headed by Lancaster’s Sen. Lloyd Smucker, is offering a bill to change that. The Big Four four state-related universities would face the same Right to Know requirements as the other universities in the state system… (more)
