Justice Department to Limit Ability to Seize Journalist Records

NEWSMAX / REUTERS: …A revised set of guidelines proposed by the department said that search warrants would not be sought against journalists carrying out “ordinary news-gathering activities.”

In another change, the department would in most instances notify news organizations in advance if a subpoena is being sought to obtain phone records.

  1. Guidelines? What would be meaningful reform would be an exclusionary rule whereby evidence seized from journalists could not be used as evidence. Anything less is meaningless posturing that can be ignored when it becomes convenient to do so..
