F & M Poll: Jobs, economy more important to Pa. residents than privatizing state liquor stores

PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE: A plurality of state voters continues to support the idea of selling Pennsylvania’s liquor stores, but a poll shows it is not an issue that ranks among the most important to them.

The poll by Franklin & Marshall College released Wednesday found support for privatizing state liquor stores declined over the past few months as opponents — including the union representing state store employees — campaigned against it, poll director G. Terry Madonna said.

Support for privatization decreased from 53 percent in February to 47 percent in May, a drop that Madonna noted is more than the poll’s error margin plus or minus 4.3 percentage points… (more)

  1. Jobs and the economy have always been first. People wanted jobs and a better economy. What did people get? 1) A healthcare bill that no one read and many still can’t figure out what it means, although BIG increases in insurance premiums are likely and workers hours are being cut to avoid mandated taxes. 2) Huge increases in food stamp recipients. 3) Over ten million added to the disability rolls. 4) A 16 trillion dollar national debt and growing.

    EDITOR:

    1) Ombama Care does not address the underlying problem with the bizarre American health system which grew out of the World War II efforts of businesses to attract workers at a time they were not permitted to raise wages. The concept of ‘single payer insurance’ which is key to successrful systems in advanced nations was anathema to power business and professional interest groups. Obama Care does assure health coverage to about 30 million more people. Congress and the administration will need to come up with radical alterations to make this hodge podge of a solution work. Fifty-two per cent of health care is currently provided by the government. The real and simple solution is ‘Medicare for everyone.’

    2) Whe the Republicans in Congress turn their backs on on Keynesian economic solution of deficit fiscal policy expenditure, for example road building. They prefer to spend tax dollars to keep people on the dole rather than putting them back to work, thus creating real assets and growing the economy back to prosperity

    3) A real problem with no simple solution. NewsLanc needs to research an report on this.
    Thanks.

    4) See #2 above. We should have been fully recovered two years ago.
