Doctors respond to spread of flu in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS: Emergency rooms in some parts of Pennsylvania are getting backed up with people sick with the flu, and doctors are warning of the possibility an unusually high number of flu deaths.

“We’re expecting we will see more patients and sicker patients over the next few weeks,” Dr. Todd Fijewski, a Philadelphia-area emergency room doctor said on Monday.

The prevalent strain this flu season is H3N2, which is often responsible for severe flu seasons, when the flu is responsible for up to 30,000 deaths in the United States, and 2,000 in Pennsylvania… (more)
