A half dozen of us learned the hard way about the cancellation of the scheduled seminar on the City Reinvestment and Improvement Zone (CRIZ).
We showed up at the Southern Market yesterday afternoon at the appointed hour, the meeting room was locked, and no note was on the door. The Southern Market personnel we encountered were not aware of the meeting or its cancellation.
Turns out the meeting was called off in the morning ostensibly because out of town participants were concerned about road conditions.
We commend Rep. Mike Sturla and Senator Lloyd Smucker for sponsoring the gathering.
We do hope that the seminar will be rescheduled. We want to hear our elected leaders explain how CRIZ is not a feeding trough for special interests to eat the lunch of future generations.
As was pointed out to us, there is something to be said for speaking to power.
