Ban all lawmaker ‘gifts’

No, state Sen. Lloyd Smucker is right on the money with his planned bill to ban nearly all freebies to public officials as well as state and local government employees.

Although it’s illegal for public officials to accept anything of value in exchange for official action, the sky is the limit for “gifts.” All that’s required is that they report travel, lodging and hospitality costs from one source of more than $650 annually or gifts worth at least $250 per year from any source… (more)

EDITOR: During hotel labor negotiations, we were a bit miffed but respectful that the union representatives would not even help themselves to coffee and pastries during a morning break.
