Auditor General calls for changes on Penn State board

…[Auditor General Jack] Wagner on Thursday called on lawmakers to bar the Penn State president from sitting on the board and to make the governor a non-voting member of the board. Wagner said the changes are needed to alleviate concerns about potential conflicts.

He also called on lawmakers to adopt rules requiring a majority of the 32-member board for a quorum, instead of the current 13. And he recommended that state-related universities such as Penn State be required to meet the same public disclosure requirements as other state and local agencies.

Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship, an alumni group that formed in response to the Jerry Sandusky child-sex scandal, announced its support of Wagner’s recommendations and called for the resignations of trustees on the board before November. That’s when prosecutors charged Sandusky, a retired assistant football coach, with abusing 10 boys over 15 years…
