AG Kane pays own legal fees, for now

PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE: In a corruption wave during the past seven years, taxpayers shelled out more than $14 million in outside legal fees for crooked politicians and state-employed witnesses. Three investigations of Attorney General Kathleen Kane likely will drive up that tab.

Kane, facing a felony perjury charge and seven misdemeanors in Montgomery County, has said she is paying for her high-priced legal team: Gerald Shargel, a renowned New York City criminal defense attorney, and earlier, former White House scandal lawyer Lanny Davis…

“Absolutely,” Kane is paying her own legal bills, said Chuck Ardo, her spokesman. Asked whether she would continue to do so, he said, “I can’t say what she will do in the future. She has told me she was paying her own bills, and they’ve become a problem for her” because of the magnitude… (more)
