Accused in sting case cites race bias; quotes AG Kathleen Kane in defense

“The elected attorney general of this Commonwealth declined to prosecute this matter,” lawyer A. Charles Peruto Jr. wrote in a legal brief filed this month.

EDITOR: When Attorney General Kane declined to prosecute these cases because she discovered that the investigation was tainted by prejudice and thus concluded they would not hold up in court, the Philadelphia Inquirer pilloried her. It was one of the first shot in the newspapers’ ongoing attacks on Kane.

A question: What will they have to say if this case goes to court and the accused are acquitted for the reasons that Kane cited?

The answer: They will play that down and emphasize the other accusations that the Inquirer / Daily News have trumped up at best or otherwise petty errors blown up out of all proportion.

Maybe good for circulation, maybe. But terrible for the state.
