A place to escape

There was a fantastic report on prison libraries, this past Saturday, not yesterday, but a week ago yesterday on NPR.  When I listened to it, I thought of you, and your strong support for the power of reading and education.  If you go to the NPR website, I believe this story is still available.  It is very powerful.  It is about one prison, I believe in North Carolina, where interested community members who live near the prison, starting visiting the prison and ultimately created a library there.  To hear the words of the prisoners, describe the power of the library to change lives, lives hardened and twisted by all kinds of misdeeds, is amazing, really amazing.  The prisoners themselves are living testimonials to the power of books to change lives.
