83% Favor Citizenship for Illegals with Caveats

NEWSMAX: Most Americans now favor a path to citizenship for the 11 million immigrants who are in the United States illegally — provided that they meet certain essential requirements, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll.

In all, the survey found that 83 percent of respondents would support a so-called path to citizenship similar to one proposed by Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio.

The conditions that would be imposed by a clear majority of Americans include learning English, passing a criminal background check, and paying all fines and back taxes, according to the wide-ranging survey…  (more)

  1. As I read the tea leaves, the main problem is future border security and immigration control, plus the Federal Governments lack of interest in enforcing current law. I doubt the current bill will pass congress. I believe many Americans are disappointed that it is so easy to come to this country and disappear from the governments radar. Allowing local and state law enforcement to check citizenship status would help get the bill passed.
