Why should City taxpayers pay for special CC services?

Why doesn’t the Convention Center pay for their own police services?  I guess we’ll be supporting this fiasco forever. It’s like the child who leaves home against his parents wishes, and then nickels and dimes the parents to death.

Most Lancastrians of sound mind never wanted the CC to begin with, and now we are the ones to ante up.

Did anyone hear the interview on Smart Talk last week with York, Harrisburg, and Lancaster mayors? Yes, tricky Rick was there. You can listen to the entire interview at WITF.org.  Tsk. Tsk.

  1. Why? Two reasons…

    1) No one listened to those in opposition to this project that the funding for and other ancillary services like parking, transportation, and freebies for promoters were not in the budget and those funds would not, and DO NOT, exist. As far as I am concerned City and County leaders should be picking up this tab because they ignored reality and pushed this project down our throats.

    2) You say “Most Lancastrians of sound mind never wanted the cc”; however, my memory says that with the exception of Ron Harper and the hoteliers early on and the Lancaster First and Newslanc folks later, very few spoke out and showed up and this played right into High’s hands.

  2. There was nothing wrong with a Lancaster County Convention Center if it would have been done the right way. There was a perfect site on the hill next to the Host Resort on RT 30 that was available for a multilevel building with all types of Hotels and Motels all around the area. The only cost was the Convention Center.

Instead we are now getting another shopping center (which we really need.) We could have had a great convention center, but the powers in the city had to have it in the city with narrow streets limited parking and a lot of backroom deals to make certain people that much richer.

The citizens of Lancaster for the most part are lemmings with an “Don’t Care unless it impacts me directly” So we now have a Convention Center and Hotel that is draining the money right out of Lancaster City and County.

  3. Please correct me if I am wrong… Wasn’t one of the campaign promises of the present county commissioners that no further monies would be granted to the LCCC once the original $40 million dollars was expended? Now there is talk that the county may have to help bail out/maintain the convention center.

Was this just another politicians’ promise to garner votes?
