Why must Pennsylvania’s judges step down at 70?

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS:  …The argument that state Rep. Kate Harper, R-Montgomery, makes for wanting to let jurists stick around longer is one of possible cost savings as well as noting that mandatory retirements are generally regarded as unlawful in this country.

Mostly, though, she said it’s a recognition that people are living healthier lifestyles and able to work more years.

“Wisdom grows with age, but now we get these guys who are past the learning curve and know what they are doing and want to serve longer and we have to say, ‘Sorry, we don’t need you anymore,’” Harper said…  (more)
