Waiting for Corbett on roads, bridges

THE MORNING CALL:   With northeastern Pennsylvania’s roads and bridges in a shambles from this month’s floods, some legislative leaders in the state Senate are putting transportation funding at the top of their to-do list this fall.

But more than a month after a special task force submitted its report, Gov. Tom Corbett has yet to signal how he wants to pay for $2.5 billion in road and bridge needs. And lawmakers, still feeling the sting over last spring’s breakdown on a school vouchers bill, say they won’t send the governor a bill until they know what he wants.

“There’s no point passing and sending him anything,” Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Jake Corman, R-Centre, said, “unless there’s word that he’ll sign it.”…   (more)
