Venezuela offers asylum to Snowden

FINANCIAL TIMES: Edward Snowden’s prospects of evading arrest by the US government received a boost on Friday when two leftwing Latin American presidents, Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela and Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua, said they were willing to offer asylum to the former National Security Agency contractor…

“I have decided to offer humanitarian asylum to the young American Edward Snowden,” Mr Maduro said during Venezuela’s independence day celebrations, “so that in the fatherland of [Simón] Bolívar and [Hugo] Chávez, he can come and live.”

Hardly missing an opportunity to hit out at Washington, Mr Maduro said he was offering the former NSA contractor shelter “to protect him from the persecution unleashed by the world’s most powerful empire”… (more)

EDITOR: Maduro has little idea what a big service he would be providing the USA by accepting Snowden! The last thing this country and especially the Democrats need is a show trial that will enflame passions.
