US retailers upbeat on holiday sales

FINANCIAL TIMES:  …The survey estimated that the overall clothing category was up 9.8 per cent for the period from October 31 to December 11, compared to the same period last year, while e-commerce sales were up 13.5 per cent.

The jewellery sector had 2.6 per cent growth over the same period, while luxury sales excluding jewellery rose 2.8 per cent.

But consumer electronics sales, which dipped below last year’s levels in the weeks leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday, remain slow, increasing only 0.4 per cent against last year.
