U.S. Sens. Bob Casey, Pat Toomey have issues with Chuck Hagel’s nomination to run the Pentagon

LEHIGH VALLEY MORNING CALL: Both Pennsylvania senators have issues with President Barack Obama‘s choice for defense secretary, but neither Democrat Bob Casey nor Republican Pat Toomey is saying whether he will vote against Chuck Hagel for the Pentagon job….

Casey, who mostly agrees with the White House policy agenda, has been critical of the administration’s policies on Iran. Casey pressed for stricter economic sanctions than what the White House had in place, and helped lead an effort in Congress to tighten sanctions, which are now law…

Toomey and Hagel never served together in the Senate, but Toomey has taken harder-line positions on Middle East foreign policy issues than Hagel. Among them: Toomey calls for aggressive unilateral sanctions against Iran while keeping military involvement an option if the sanctions don’t work.
