Candidates run to the political middle in every general election, but rarely do they have to go as far as Pennsylvania’s Senate candidates.
As many as 13 Senate seats are considered toss-ups this year, but the divergent voting records of Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak and former Rep. Pat Toomey make this race unique, political observers said.
“I can’t think of a race in the country where you have two candidates who are so ideologically opposed to each other,” said Jeff Brauer, political science professor at Keystone College in Lackawanna County. “You’ve got one who’s very conservative and one who’s very liberal running in a moderate state.”…
