U.S. auto sales bounce back with an 11.1% rise from 2009

…The auto industry saw auto sales climb 11.1% from a dismal 2009, selling almost 11.6 million cars and trucks last year, according to Autodata figures released Tuesday. While better than the 10.4 million of 2009, it’s still a far cry from years in which it sold more than 16 million vehicles last decade…

General Motors and Ford Motor both posted single-digit gains in December, while Chrysler saw sales soar 16.4%. Chrysler, which along with GM has come back from bankruptcy proceedings more than a year ago, sold more trucks, while its car sales fell.

Audi and Subaru said they set sales records in 2010. South Korea’s Hyundai was up 32.6%, while sales of sister brand Kia increased 44.6%. Among major makers, only Toyota and Volvo saw sales decline…
