The City of Harrisburg and landlords need a compromise on bad tenant law

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS Editorial:  …The law states that if the city issues two disruptive-conduct reports for a tenant at the same rental property within 12 months, the landlord will find his or her residential rental permit for the affected apartment revoked.

The law that goes into effect on Dec. 4 would require the landlord to evict the problem tenant or the apartment will be considered unfit for occupancy. It is a new, tough stance for the city. Harrisburg officials are right to see this as a serious problem and follow up on complaints City Council and the mayor have received from residents unhappy about the conduct of those living beside them.

The law does not shut down an entire apartment building, only the particular dwelling that has the problems…  (more)

EDITOR:  Conscientious landlords will welcome this law, because it will facilitate the process of evicting unruly tenants.
