Tarmac delays down dramatically in June USA TODAY: A new federal rule cracking down on lengthy tarmac delays is showing signs of success.

U.S. airlines reported three flights in June with tarmac delays of more than three hours vs. 268 in June 2009, according to a report Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Despite airlines’ contention that fining them for lengthy delays would cause more cancellations, air traffic data from June showed “no increase in the rate of canceled flights,” says the report, compiled by the department’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The 18 largest U.S. airlines canceled 1.5% of their flights in June, unchanged from a year ago…
