A Letter to the Editor from State Rep. Mike Sturla states “…the yearly budget for all state police operations is just under $1 billion. While a portion of that goes to provide services to all Pennsylvania ….near half (approximately $480 million) provides routine patrol services to municipalities that do not employ their own police and serve less than 25 percent of the state’s population. HB 1500 seeks to recapture that $480 million through a service fee.”
