Article “Ware Center enters next phase: renovation” reports:

“The challenge for Millersville University has been to convert what was a single-purpose building into a multipurpose one.”…
“We have 15 classes a night, normally running from 6 to 9 p.m.,” [Roger] Bruszewski said. “And we are running close to 1,000 students.”

The state completed its purchase of the 63,000-square-foot structure in March 2011 for $10.9 million.

“They gave me five years to get us in the black,” [Harvey] Owen said. “And we will be in the black this year. The Ware Center will be paying for itself; it will be self-sustaining, not a burden.”… (more)

WATCHDOG: A wag of the tail for the well written article and two wags of the tail for those who brought about the acquisition of the former Pennsylvania Academy of Music building by Millersville University.

Perhaps the University should consider taking over some of the abandoned class space at the Brunswick Hotel.   The upper floors would also be highly suitable for dormitories.

Yes, we still believe the state overpaid for the single purpose building.   Also, the name grates on us considering all the money lost to generous contributors and the tax payers under the co- leadership of the person being honored.  Lastly, due to its real estate tax exemption, taxpayers must make up the difference for approximately $250,000 in lost revenue.

Nevertheless, we are very gratified that the building is being put to good use and especially that an education purpose and concerts have been preserved.
