In a column entitled The coming generation gap”, Associate Editor Gil Smart opines:

“I say, the years ahead are bound to be tumultuous. And if the social fabric is to hold, then our approach to austerity must be one of basic fairness. As Frum wrote, ‘everybody must contribute and must be seen to contribute.’

“For if we try to say that one shall have austerity — while another gets to keep it all or even get a tax cut — well, that doesn’t sustain the social consensus. It pretty much rips it up into a million little pieces.”

WATCHDOG: Well said.  A wag of the tail.
