SUNDAY NEWS

In an article column “A run on the ‘bank’, editor Marv Adams writes:

…”‘It was the second week of school, and Mom hadn’t sent them to school yet because she didn’t have the required school uniforms,’ the pastor remembered. Elementary- and middle-school students in the School District of Lancaster are required to wear navy or khaki bottoms, and white, light blue or navy tops (no insignias).”..

WATCHDOG: It seems to us that both the moral and perhaps legal thing for the School District of Lancaster to do  is to provide uniforms for those who cannot afford them.  It is the district’s responsibility to educate youngsters so we question its right to turn kids away who cannot afford uniforms.

A vigorous wag of the tail for  Rev. Debra Davis of the Pearl Street United Methodist Church and those others who are helping to redress this sorry situation.

  1. Each of our schools has a uniform bank where parents and community members can donate uniforms for students who are in need, actually anyone can take a uniform from the bank.
