SUNDAY NEWS

Editorial “Bar None” advocates “Elections board must allow media inside building where votes are tallied election night.  Transparency is essential.”

WATCHDOG: We find it hard to conceive that Mary Stehman, Terry Kauffman, Jim Thomas and Christina Hausner could even consider restricting the media from full access to vote counting.  This just shows how ignorant our local leadership can be of the most basic tenet of American democracy…  vote counting in the public view.

But then again, despite clear evidence to the susceptibility of electronic voting  machines to rigging, the former board of commissioners purchased a number of them.   Fortunately, the current commissioners  acted more wisely.

There is good reason to believe that  the will of the voters has been thwarted in the defeat for reelection of at least one US Senator and in a number of other lesser elections through manipulation of voting machines.  In this age when huge money contributions are funding media that misleads the public, just about the last bastion of hope for the future is in an open and honest election count.   Let’s not screw it up here in Lancaster.

Two wags of the tail for the Sunday News!
