In his column “The wrong assumption”, Editor Marv Adams discusses: “Why was the photo of a missing 10-year-old city girl placed on Page B2 on Sunday, Feb. 20? If she had been white, the questioner wondered, would her photo have been in a more prominent spot?
“Having my editorial judgment questioned is nearly a daily occurrence. I expect it. I welcome it.
“But the question also made an assumption:
“That I made a decision based on the little girl’s skin color….”
WATCHDOG: Adams’ explanation of the last minute circumstances that resulting in the article being on an inside page, how it was immediately posted on-line, and the reaction of a responsible adult to a lost child, let alone a father, not only evoked a sense of pride in the Sunday News but brought tears to the Watchdog’s eyes.
Sorry….I shed no tears for Marveleous Marv and the all-white news staff at LNP.
