SUNDAY NEWS

“Philadelphia facility similar to proposal for Manheim, Goal is to keep former inmates from backsliding into prison. Figures are hard to come by.” relates:

“For the residents of 1917 W. Oxford St., curfews and chore charts have replaced windows with bars and guards with guns.
The men inside the four-story brick building in a bustling, diverse north Philadelphia neighborhood have left prison.
But their newfound freedom has limits.  There are meetings with case managers, random drug and alcohol tests and mandates to find a job.

“But for former inmates who follow the rules, a few months’ stay at Oxford is the last stop before home.”

WATCHDOG: Two wags of the tail to the editors for the courage to publish this article, although it would have been better placed on page B1 rather than buried on page A4.  Also a wag of the tail for  Mary Beth Schweigeret who did a good job of researching and writing it.

Also a wag of the tail for “Trouble in Hazleton, Residents of Minsec center there have committed crimes; one was killed, another tried to rob banks; others have simply walked away.” Page A5.  Same editors; same reporter.  Running both articles is solid, honorable journalism.
