In “Paid obits paying off”, Editor Marv Adams explains “Writing a good obit is storytelling. Good reporters took pride in writing them. Then, more than five years ago, we joined many newspapers by charging for obituaries.”
WATCHDOG: Adams column is not only amusing, at one point providing a ‘belly laugh’ pertaining to the afterlife, but he actually makes charging for obituaries and allowing them to be written by families into a virtue. A wag of the tail!
Apparently someone’s death is no longer considered to be news. Instead, it is nothing more than another source of revenue.
