Subscribers more interested in ads than news

In cities that have had protracted strikes, they’ve done polls to determine what readers miss most about the newspaper. The answer? Local advertising…

The cost of a Sunday News subscription is pretty minimal—$1 a week—and I can usually recoup that by learning of a special at Ollie’s or Staples. And they include the Saturday Intelligencer New Era for free, so I get some extra cryptograms to solve as well.

There are two big benefits of the merger. One is that we have fewer trucks on the city streets in the middle of the day, adding to air pollution and congesting traffic. The other is that the alternative is no newspaper at all.

It appears that the Sunday News will be around for a while, but the Intelligencer New Era is likely to become a weekly newspaper within the next few years.
