Statewide Marcellus control bill criticized as intrusive

PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE:  One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to Marcellus Shale drilling in Pennsylvania, local government officials said a day after a state House panel moved to create statewide regulations that would supersede gas drilling ordinances already in place.

The move by House Republicans in Harrisburg could overturn the work of towns across the state that have spent taxpayer dollars and months — if not years — developing drilling ordinances that fit the particular concerns of their residents. In a state divided into hundreds of communities, each with its own jurisdiction, drillers have said more uniform regulations would accelerate development.
