States’ Medicaid costs still climbing

PITTSBURG POST GAZETTE:   Medicaid enrollment in Pennsylvania remains high, while federal spending on the low-income health program is down this fiscal year — which means that the state share of Medicaid spending is going through the roof….

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania’s spending on Medicaid is budgeted to grow from $4.5 billion in the 2010-11 fiscal year to $6.1 billion in the 2011-12 year, an increase of 36 percent.

Why? Pennsylvania, like the rest of the states, is no longer receiving extra Medicaid assistance in the form of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act “stimulus” money from the federal government…   (more)
