State releases Atlantic City revitalization report

ATLANTIC CITY PRESS: A governor’s advisory report for revitalizing Atlantic City’s battered economy calls for the immediate appointment of an emergency manager who would have “extraordinary supervisory powers” to oversee the entire municipal government, including the mayor and City Council.

Other major recommendations include an overhaul of the property-tax structure, school reform, a pension freeze, the consolidation of government services and the creation of a public-private development corporation to coordinate redevelopment projects.

The report, released Thursday, grew out of two economic summits convened by Gov. Chris Christie to pull Atlantic City out of a financial crisis caused by the closing of four casinos this year and loss of 8,000 jobs.
