State Police makes right call on cursing citations

From the CHAMBERSBURG PUBLIC OPINION:

It rarely works to our benefit, but one of the signature paradoxes of American culture is our freedom to be stupid and ill-mannered.

The line between free speech and criminal activity can be hard to see sometimes but, generally speaking, being rude, crude and self-defeating is not illegal in this nation.

It’s a position that Pennsylvania State Police recently and reluctantly upheld when they decided to stop arresting people for cursing at them or others. The American Civil Liberties Union helped them to that point by standing up for the rights of people needlessly and wrongfully caught in the justice system — not because of their actions, but because of their use of language…
