Arlen Specter frequently makes the case to Democrats that he’d be the stronger candidate against Republican Pat Toomey this fall.
Specter has more than 30 years of campaign prowess, a litany of well-funded donors and the support of the White House in his bid to remain in the U.S. Senate, so no one disputes he could put up a tough fight in November.
But a series of public opinion polls seems to belie Specter’s claim.
Specter trails Toomey by 7 percentage points in a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday. When Democrat Joe Sestak is matched with Toomey, it’s a statistical dead heat.
