Senate committee looks at privatizing state stores

…Though some in Harrisburg think the sale of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board will raise enough short-term money to ease the state’s financial problems, state Sen. John Pippy, R-37, Moon Township, favors a measured approach to the potential change; the senate’s Law and Justice Committee, which Pippy chairs, started that approach with the hearing Monday afternoon…

Monday’s hearing was to include officials from national government reform agencies, research groups and the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association. A second hearing, which Pippy said has yet to be scheduled, will take a more focused view.

“At that hearing, we’ll hear from representatives of the LCB itself, as well as representatives of its employees,” Pippy said. “We should have a pretty complete picture of what the issues are when we’re done.”
