SE PA doesn’t need another minor league team

When the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs moved into Allentown in 2008 as the Class-AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, team officials said they were not interested in putting any more minor league franchises in the area for fear of diluting the fan bases for those already in existence…

Despite that, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Phillies president David Montgomery has met with a group from West Center called the Turks Head Stadium Alliance. It is working with Howie  Bedell, a former Phillies player, to build a stadium and draw a Class-A team to the seat of Chester County….

Under most circumstances, that wouldn’t be much of a concern. We would say the law of supply and demand should be applied, as it is to most private enterprises. But the Turks Head Stadium Alliance is asking for $20 million from the taxpayers to get things going…
