According to today’s editorial in LNP headed “Library system merger with Lancaster County government seems like a win for everyone”:
“If folding the library system into county government would bring the libraries more money, and so improve their services, and would at the same time work for taxpayers, it seems like it is what County [Commissioner Scott] Martin and [ Brandon Danz, the Library System of Lancaster County board president] Danz believe it is — an all-around win.
“It seems like a win, too, for Lancaster Public Library, which has taken issue with the library system over fundraising and other matters.”
“If we can redirect a dollar — that currently goes to the system for some bureaucratic expense — to the libraries, there’s no reason we shouldn’t do that,’ Danz said.”
As in the situation with last year’s bail out of the Convention Center (not to be confused with this year’s bail out or again next year’s), Martin has shown himself a fresh thinker and willing to face problems straight on.
And Danz is a refreshing public servant, recognizing what NewsLanc and other critics of the Library System have been saying almost from day one of the System: It was and is a boondoggle created by power hungry individuals. It does not efficiently serve the needs of the member libraries or the public.
