Scandal-driven turnover prompts Pa. high court to take fresh look at outstanding cases

 

LEHIGH VALLEY MORNING CALL:  With the number of veteran justices sitting on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court whittled down to three by retirement and scandal, the state’s highest court will go back to Square 1 for more than two dozen undecided cases.

The decision to take a fresh look at the cases gives new Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty and David Wecht, who were sworn in this month, the opportunity to participate in decisions that will guide lawyers and judges in the future.

While the court occasionally takes a second stab at deciding cases, its members agreed that a fresh look at all of the cases that remained undecided from 2014 and 2015 was appropriate in light of the historic turnover, court spokesman Josh Wilson said…  (more)

 

EDITOR:  In addition, their first order of business should be to review the suspension of Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s law license.  Given the pornography charges plaguing court members, some of the hold overs should recuse themselves.
