LOS ANGELES TIMES: San Bernardino on Tuesday became the third California city in less than a month to seek bankruptcy protection, with officials saying the financial situation had become so dire that it could not cover payroll through the summer.

EDITOR: But for the vigorous opposition to the Convention Center project, it would have been followed by trolley cars and Lord knows what else so that that local financial and construction interests could have continued to feed off City and County bond issues. Ultimately it would have also have brought Lancaster to its knees.
