Romney to delay release of tax return

 

FINANCIAL TIMES:   Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, is delaying the release of his 2011 tax return until later in the year, exposing him to potential criticism from Democrats that he is seeking to shield details of his vast fortune and preferential tax treatment.

The Romney campaign announced the move on Friday evening, after President Barack Obama had released his own tax returns showing he and his wife paid an effective federal tax rate of 20.5 per cent on income of $789,674 last year.

 “Sometime in the next six months, and prior to the election, Governor Romney will file and release the 2011 return when there is sufficient information to provide an accurate return,” the Romney campaign said, noting that in earlier years, Mr Romney had also filed his taxes later than the mid-April deadline commonly observed by most Americans…   (more)
