Resolution to Investigate Attorney General Kane to Be Considered by the Full House

EDITOR’S NOTE: Rep Everett is proposing that the state legislature follow the proper procedure for investigating an elected official, leading to possible impeachment by the Assembly, and conceivable removal by the Senate.  Presumably all of this would be done through hearings and in the public eye.
By State Representative Garth Everett

My House Resolution 659, which calls for an investigation into the conduct and allegations against Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, will be taken up Monday, Feb. 8.

This resolution proposes an inquiry to be conducted by the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Courts, chaired by Reps. Todd Stephens (R-Montgomery) and Tim Briggs (D-Montgomery). I am a member of that subcommittee.

Serious allegations have been made, and this inquiry must be conducted for the benefit of the people of the Commonwealth. The unanimous vote taken by the House Judiciary Committee last week to move this resolution to the House floor proves that this is not a partisan hunt, but a sincere effort to get to the truth of the matter.

It is the House of Representatives that is charged with the constitutional duty to investigate whether inappropriate conduct by public officials, including the attorney general, merits the opening of impeachment proceedings.

I will keep you posted on the progress of this matter.
